Shooting at Howe Park Wounds Four Victims Wounded in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade

Officials in Sacramento County are working a gunfire incident that occurred Saturday evening at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area while authorities were breaking up an unsanctioned gathering of multiple hundreds of people.

Prior to the Shooting

Sacramento County law enforcement initially got calls about Howe Community Park around 6:30 PM after receiving reports of people potentially armed with concealed firearms. Shortly after, another report was received mentioning a possible fight taking place at Howe Park.

An overhead unit was sent to survey the area but was unable to locate the reported altercation. Nevertheless, it became clear that a crowd of several hundred had gathered without authorization in an unauthorized manner.

The Dispersal and Shooting

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies worked to disperse the crowd by positioning themselves around the crowd and broadcasting over loudspeakers commanding the assembled Sacramento park shooting 2026 crowd to clear out. Around 15 minutes were given for the gathering to break up.

As the crowd was being cleared that upwards of 20 gunshots rang out. Gunfire triggered a stampede. Responding personnel swiftly started identifying shooting victims.

Four Victims Hospitalized

When the dust settled, four gunshot victims were discovered with shooting injuries. The shooting victims — including a female and three males each apparently in their 20s at the time of the incident — were brought to nearby hospitals. Medical teams stated that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one victim's injuries were classified as moderate, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. As of last report, all four victims survived and were stable.

Sacramento Metro Fire arrived on scene and helped care for shooting victims at the park.

Evidence at the Scene

The main crime scene seemed to have occurred near the Cottage Way side of the park close to the Home Depot store situated at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Detectives found additional spent rounds throughout the Cottage Way area. Round impacts were also found in the wrought iron perimeter fencing near the nearby Home Depot. The physical evidence indicated that at least one shooter had been aiming south from Cottage Way toward the Home Depot building and parking lot. The Home Depot was temporarily locked down for a period of time. Crime scene technicians and detectives stayed at the location late into the evening.
